Hello, StandOut friends!
In today’s fast-paced, distraction-filled world , receiving full and undivided attention is a true gift.
Imagine having a conversation where you intentionally listen to the other person. No phone in sight, no team messaging or email interruptions, no eyes drifting to the clock. Chances are this interaction will make the other person feel both valued and heard. For team leaders, giving this type of attention is everything.
When leaders give consistent, intentional attention to their team members, through listening, communicating, coaching, recognizing, and more, people feel engaged. StandOut is here to help leaders prioritize team member attention, and to elevate the understanding of this behavior for all users, with our July 12th release. The theme of this release is (you guessed it!) Attention. Please read on below to learn more!
If you’d like to know what’s next for StandOut, please review the Near-Term Roadmap for details on upcoming releases. The next release theme will be Engagement.

New resource! The Check-In Experience: The Human Side of High-Quality Connections at Work
Weekly connections between team leaders and team members are key for building trust, aligning on priorities, and driving engagement. With this release, we’re introducing a new brief that brings together the findings from a series of research projects designed to help us understand what a meaningful and valued “connection” looks like, sounds like, and feels like in the real world, including:
Things that make connections valuable to team leaders
Things that team member most appreciate about their Check-In experiences
Characteristics of a great Check-In

New resource! The Power of Attention
Attention is a powerful tool, as proven by our latest findings on the impact it has on employee engagement. This new research brief offers an updated look at the relationship between these two factors and highlights the importance of paying attention to yourself as a team member, receiving attention from your team leader, and the compounding effects of these behaviors over time.
By taking a longitudinal approach to examining trends and changes over time to the inputs and outcomes of the attention-engagement relationship, the StandOut Research Team has discovered the first empirical evidence of a causal relationship between attention and engagement.
This brief provides a summary of compelling new evidence – information that can be leveraged by individual contributors, team leaders, and HR professionals to effect positive change on their own and others’ experiences at work.

Enhancement: Private Notes for Team Leaders
We’ve heard from StandOut clients that it would be helpful for team leaders to have a way of documenting notes privately to themselves within their team member’s Check-In, and we’re delivering on that request with this release. With new private note functionality, team leaders will be able to add, edit, and delete notes to themselves that will be attached to the team member’s current Check-In week. These notes may be edited within 30 days of creations, viewed within historical Check-In data, and will be retained for the duration of the Check-In data.

Team leaders may also share private notes with other static and dynamic leaders of the team member. Email and platform notifications will be sent to the receiving leader when a note is shared with another leader. This feature will help StandOut leaders remember the details they need to provide their team members with intentional and focused attention during their Check-In.
Check-Ins
Enhancement: Editable Loves & Loathes
Delivering on another request that we’ve heard from StandOut clients, we’re pleased to offer new functionality to help users pay more attention to which activities make them feel strong or weak throughout the week using Check-In Loves & Loathes.
Did you remember a meeting from last week that really energized you, but you forgot to enter it into your Check-In? Was there an activity that really drained you that you’d like to share with your leader? The Loves & Loathes section of the Check-In will now be editable after submission, so users can document these things for future conversations and data records.
Once a Check-In has been submitted with Loves & Loathes input, an “Edit” link will appear in the top right corner of the widget. If the Check-In doesn’t include Loves & Loathes input, the top corner link will say “Add”. Once the user has added or modified the content, a “Save” button will be enabled. The date & time stamp for this section will update each time a modification is saved. If the team leader has already viewed the Check-In prior to the modification, they will receive a notification via platform and email alerting them to the modification with a link to view it.
Check-Ins
Enhancement: Spotlight Questions
Big news--we’re freshening up your favorite weekly ritual with a fun enhancement to facilitate connection in a new way! With this release, a rotating popup Check-In Spotlight Question will appear after you submit your Check-In. This question will change each week to encourage new conversations between team members and team leaders.

With this enhancement, there are no changes to the current Check-In process: the submission experience will remain the same. After a Check-In is submitted and Coaching Intelligence appears, a new Spotlight Question will popup. There will be a new question each week, and all users will receive the same question. Spotlight Question responses will appear on the My Check-In page under the Strengths and Value Pulse section, where the response will be editable and shareable during the Check-In week.
Team leaders will be able to view team member responses to the Spotlight Question directly below the Strengths and Value Pulse section, and a new widget has also been added to the Leader Dashboard where they’ll be able to scroll through all team member responses to the question. A new “About” module on this page contains general information on what the Spotlight Question is and shows what the next 5 questions will be.
